Despite positive economic growth, there are large inequalities in Panama: the gap between rich and poor increases. In 2008, 32 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

Many children and adolescents are directly affected by this lack of equity, especially children in the most remote rural areas and the indigenous populations.

In our visits to villages sections of Costa Abajo of the province of Colón, we found ourselves with very disappointing pictures that impact us by the extreme poverty conditions that those families are living there. Among the problems we have seen we can mention the following:

  1. Lack of roads to connect with more developed populations.
  2. Lack of transport to connect with the more developed areas.
  3. Lack of utilities: water and electricity.
  4. Lack of healthcare centers nearby.

The only way to generate income for their families is to live on what they sow and harvest on their lands and from informal work, which is dissipated because parents don’t have any family planning and willingness to have children, so they can barely afford to feed themselves.

Throughout this means we want to create awareness on the immediate need to take concrete and viable actions to assist children in these regions. So your donations are very valuable.

We know that the task is not easy, nevertheless is isn’t impossible and if we put one hand on our heart I am sure that the spirit and courage to help those in need will pass to others and step by step we will see the results of our efforts in those boys and girls who manage to break the vicious circle of poverty and get ahead.
